City Cleanup Project Continues

For the past several months a small group of volunteers have been working together to clean up properties and tear down structures that have been vacated and are beyond renovating. Jim Carpenter, one of the organizers said that the volunteers first contacted the owner of an old house located near downtown Rising Star. The roof had partially fallen in, and the house was uninhabitable. “The owner gave us permission to tear it down, so we announced our plans through social media outlets and had a good response”, he said. The group began tearing down that house in February. Once that lot was cleared, they talked with another property owner and began tearing down a second house in April.
