Several months ago a small group of volunteers began to formulate a plan that would help rid the City of Rising of unsightly and uninhabitable buildings Through their work, a third dilapidated house here in Rising Star has been torn down, and the lot is now being cleaned of the debris. “The owner of an old, uninhabitable house on Brewster Street gave us permission to tear it down, so we announced our plans through social media outlets. Although we had several volunteers join us, the work was tedious and it took several weeks of work before the structure really started to come down. With the hot summer days and busy schedules, many of us had to scale back the hours we could donate to the clean-up project. We discussed several different options, and finally were able to turn the demolition over to a professional who had the heavy equipment to finish the job quickly,” explained volunteer Ben Childers.
