LOCAL METHODIST CHURCH NEEDS PUBLIC HELP WITH ARCHIVED HISTORICAL WW2 HONOR ROLL DOCUMENT TO BE DISPLAYED ON SUNDAY, MAY 24

The First United Methodist Church in Eastland is asking for assistance from the local area to document names on a church “Honor Roll” of 150 military men/women during World War II.

The framed document was discovered when the church began their Archive Department several years ago to save documents, photos, membership lists, etc. for history and future generations.

After researching and reframing the document, the church realized that almost no information had survived regarding the military persons listed on the the Honor Roll.

One letter was found from a Pastor writing to Cpl. Turner in 1945 explaining that a candlelight service would occur at church and a candle would be lit by a relative or friend for each person on the Honor Roll.

One name on the Honor Roll has been linked to a present-day local family who attends First United Methodist Church in Eastland.

However, the Archive Dept. is requesting help from local area families and friends who may have had a loved ones name on the Honor Roll during World War II and can supply some history for these brave military men/women.

The telephone number at the church is 254-629-1022. The Honor Roll will be displayed publicly for the first time since 1945 at the 10:50 morning service on Sunday, May 24, 2015 in observance of Memorial Day.
