SUPERINTENDENT DONALD HUGHES SUBMITS RESIGNATION TO E.I.S.D. BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Eastland I.S.D. Board of Trustees met in a Special Called Meeting on Friday, March 28th. Several agenda items were discussed during the meeting. One of which was to ratify resignations from Superintendent Donald Hughes and also from Kindergarten Teacher, Sandy Yarbrough. Mr. Hughes last day of employment with the school district will be August 31st. According to Board Chairman, Jim Moylan trustees will meet Tuesday, April 1st to begin the process of hiring a new Superintendant.
In other business, Trustees met in Executive Session to discuss complaint/performance of a Siebert Elementary teacher. Upon their return to regular session, Chairman Moylan stated "I will read a statement regarding the matter and then the matter will be settled." The brief statement indicated that an investigation had been completed and concluded with the words "We are working with the teacher to improve classroom performance."
Ruben Zarate, Father of the 5th grade student who was involved in the incident, prompting the complaint, stated "I am releived that the incident is now a matter of record but I am not happy with the outcome of todays meeting. I remain very concerned about E.I.S.D.'s lack of communication with parents and about the conflict of interest that exist in our school district."
Trustees discussed a tax request from the Haines family regarding a property break. The request was to nulify the penality and interest which was assessed on one of their properties last year. The Board voted to nulify the penality/interest in the amount of $60.
For their final agenda item the Board announced the hiring of Cliff Watkins as Boys Athletic Director/Head Coach (see seperate story).
