William "Bill" Suggs

    EASTLAND – William “Bill” Suggs, 88 of Eastland, passed away Thursday July 30, 2015 in Eastland.  Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Lake Leon Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Rhoton officiating.  Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.  The family  received friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland on Sunday, 6~8 p.m.

     He was born September 3, 1926 in Abilene to Joe Atlas Suggs and Flora Ellen (Barnett) Suggs.  He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marines from 1943 until 1946.  He married Johnnie Lue Suggs on April 24, 1982 in Roswell, N.M.  He was a self-employed manufacturer.  He was a member of the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Lake Leon Baptist Church, and Eastland Masonic Lodge #467.

     He was preceded in death by a son, William Harris Suggs; 3 brothers, Joe Suggs, Bob Suggs, and Jerry Suggs; and a sister, Mary Hodkins.

     Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Lue Suggs of Eastland; daughter, Penny Kay Dyer and husband Travis of Eastland; 3 step-daughters, Marsha Waldroup and husband Luther of Alamosa, CO, Linda Bobst and husband David of Dexter, NM, and Susie Paulson and husband Kent of Alamosa, CO; 4 step-sons, Ronnie Raburn and wife Carolyn of Odessa, John Dodgen and wife Marty of Salida, CO, Joe Dodgen and wife Sharon of Lexington, KY, and Jim Dodgen & wife Michelle of Lexington KY; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

     Memorials may be made to the Lake Leon Baptist Church or to the Eastland Animal Shelter.
