Charles “Don” Wood

IRAAN, TEXAS--Charles “Don” Wood, 78, passed away January 15, 2015. He was born March 16, 1936 in Temple, Texas to William Onan Wood and Velma Elaine (Pate) Wood. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his four siblings, Robert Wood, Nelda Turner, Joe Wood and Cathy Carre. Don graduated from Temple High School in 1954. Don married Barbara Ann Shoemake on August 11, 1955 in Jal, New Mexico, and they were happily married for 58 years. They lived in many places in Texas but their final home was in Iraan, Texas. Don retired from El Paso Natural Gas in 1984. He loved to restore old homes, weld and was a skilled carpenter, but his true life-long passion was fishing. Don was a member of Iraan Community Church and for many years he was an active member in the Rio Grande River Ministry, Southwest Texas Prison Ministry & Family Outreach and served as a deacon in the Baptist Church. Don loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Wood of Iraan, his son, Charles “Chip” Wood of Iraan, his daughter, Lia Brantley of Iraan. Don is also survived by his three granddaughters, Jayme Stuteville, Lauren Wood and Caiti Word. Additionally he is survived by his three great-grandchildren, Hunter Stuteville, Reagan Schumacher and Laken Schumacher. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Iraan Community Church in Iraan, Texas.
