Roberta Fern Wilson of Rising Star, age 88, passed from this life on May 14, 2014, at Eastland Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 17, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Rising Star with Terry Simmons officiating; burial will follow in the May Cemetery.  Visitation will be at the 1st Baptist Church in Rising from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening May 16th.

 

She was born November 7, 1925, near Chandler, TX, to Robert and Minnie Mae (Dobie) Franklin.  Roberta graduated from Rising Star High School in 1943 as Valedictorian.  She went onto nursing school at City County Hospital (now known as John Peter Smith Hospital) graduating in 1947 as a Register Nurse.  She lived in New York City, working as a nurse for one year, living with her brother Sterling and family.

 

Roberta returned to Texas to Marry Clayton Junior Wilson on June 21, 1948 in Brownwood, TX.  They settled in Pecos and stared their family with the births of Robert, Ronnie, Gary and Sharon.  In 1964 they moved to Rising Star and Karen was born in 1967.  Roberta and Clayton were married for 58 years which resulted in a family of 5 children, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Roberta taught elementary-age Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church, Rising Star.  She loved to read, quilt, work crossword puzzles, write letters and cards to family and friends and watch Wheel of Fortune.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many in the community.

 

She is survived by her three sons, Robert and wife Linda of Carrollton, Ronnie and wife Doris of Gustine, Gary and wife Lee of Cisco; two daughters, Sharon and husband Ronnie Parsley of Cisco, and daughter, Karen and husband, Robby Brown of the Colony, along with grandchildren Penny, Kimberly, Kristi, Cody, Trisha, Tracy, Ronnie, Cameron, Colby, Kaitlin, Kendra, Matthew and Emily.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Evelyn Wilson of Rising Star and Mary Rose Goodard of Grants Pass, OR and her great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Sterling and her husband Clayton.
