Floods in Eastland County

County Judge Rex Fields & Water Distrct Superintendent Bennington Comment
County Judge Rex Fields states, " National Guard & Forestry Service on Standby, Local First Responders Evacuating Lake Leon Area Now"

Eastland County Today Spoke with County Judge Rex Fields this morning and confirmed local fire departments and first responders are evacuating homes at Lake Leon.  Judge Fields said, " It looks like we are now facing another flood at Lake Leon Area."   East Main Street in Eastland was narrowed to one lane which was still in high water.   The Maverick stadium is flooded and much of  the North Side of Eastland.

Eastland Water Board Superintendent Bennington spoke to ECT and said that the morning glory is presently 4 ft overflow and it would take 3 to 4 more ft more before the lake would overflow into the emergency drainage.   This would not completely solve the high water level of the lake causing the flooding because once that holding area is full it would flood back over into lake.  Lake Leon is receiving overflow from Eastland Lake ( which is flooded) and Olden Lake ( which is flooded) and holding its own overflow.  Lake Leon was build in 1954 and no emergency dams were built into it, which creates this drainage challenge.

County roads 2461 is closed across the dam at present, but County road 2214 and 2461 S can be utilized to reach property on the lake.
