Mavericks’ Golf Finishes 2nd, Headed To State

The Eastland Maverick Golf Team came through in a big way the second day of the Regional Tournament. Day 1 presented very difficult conditions and the scores reflected the inclement weather. We teed off around 9:45 a.m. with temperatures in the upper 30’s with wind gusts over 40 mph. At the end of the day we were sittingin 6th place with a score of 356, nine strokes out of second and eight strokes out of third. Considering that three teams advance to the State Tournament, I thought our chances were really good. That evening I told the guys that we were in a great position and to fire at the flag the second day.
