Pouring It On!

Update On Gregory Simmons Memorial Airport
By Kathy Spencer

While most of us were snuggled down and fast asleep in our beds, the early morning hours of July 16th, dawned on the Austin Bridge and Road crews pouring cement for the 14-inch thick runway at the Gregory Simmons Memorial Airport site, west of Cisco and south of I- 20. According to Bill Moore, Airport Manager, the entire 5,280 foot, formed, job will be done in sections of 30, 40 and 30 foot, respectively, to create the 100 foot wide runway. Now, that’s alot of cement folks! What an undertaking! Aircraft will touch down on this runway and ease its way along the 60 foot wide taxiway. This will be poured next, along with the Fixed Base Operations facility and hangar ramp areas.
