GREGORY SIMMONS MEMORIAL AIRPORT; MEN, MACHINES, MATERIAL, FINISHING THE JOB

By Kathy Spencer

As you turn off the westbound access road onto County Road 129, the construction site of the new Gregory Simmons Memorial Airport looms large before your eyes. Water tank trailers, a Batch plant, an enormous building (HangarA) and neatly stacked roofing materials, along  with heavy equipment, greet you. The front entry leads to the taxiway, with the future site of the Fuel Farm, which will offer 20,000 gallons ofJetA and 12,000 gallons  of Avgas and Fixed Base of Operations on the left. Hangar A and B are located on your right.
