For Many, Every Day Is ‘Grandparents Day’!

By Debra Eaton

Grandparents across America celebrated theirspecial day on Sunday, September  7, 2014. Commemorated mainly for 3 purposes, National Grandparents Day was born on August 3, 1978 with the then President, Jimmy Carter signing a proclamation declaring Grandparents Day as a National holiday. Celebrated the first Sunday in September, following Labor Day, the purpose of this day is to honor grandparents, to give them an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help the children become aware of the strength, information, and guidance that their elders can offer. Today, more than 2.5 million grandparents, across the United States, have stepped outside of their role and have taken on the responsibility for raising their grandchildren.
