Lady Rangers face Lady Texans in opening round of Regional Tourney
Entering the stretch run of the season, Ranger College was in danger of missing the regional tournament again. The Rangers put together a five-game winning streak, which included beating the eventual conference champ and three teams in direct competition for the final two playoff spots, which allowed them to make the postseason for the first time since the late 90s.
Ranger earned the No. 3 seed from the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference they will face the No. 2 seed from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, South Plains College Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Lubbock Sports Complex.
Ranger (17-13) beat Collin County Community College 55-39, which started the run to the postseason. They did not face South Plains this season. The Lady Texans finished the regular season with a 26-4 record and are currently ranked No. 6 in the national rankings.
The Lady Texans have three players averaging 13 points per game, Elizabeth Cera, Yanina Inkia and Jasauen Beard. Also, Beard is leading the team in rebounds with six per contest.
Shaylan Coleman leads Ranger averaging 12 points per game. Freshman, Lena Maledon is averaging six points a game shooting nearly 40 percent from behind the arc. The Grand Canyon University commit, Josie Fisher leads the team with three assists per game and is also scoring six points per.
The winner of this game will move on to face Western Texas College of Collin County Friday at 1 p.m.
