Ranger College Softball Makes Region V Tourney
Coming down to the last series of the season, the Lady Rangers needed one victory to make the 6th and final playoff spot for Region 5 North tournament.
On April 26, Vernon College lost their last two games of the season to Grayson College. Also on the 26th, Hill College lost their last two games of the season to Weatherford College. With Vernon and Hill losing their last games, all Ranger College had to do to break the 3-way tie for the 6th position was win one of their last 2 games against Grayson College.
On April 28, the Lady Rangers hosted Grayson College for a double-header. In Game 1, catcher Jordan Casarez had a great day at the plate, going 4 for 4 (4 doubles) knocking in 3 runs and scoring 2 herself. The Lady Rangers pushed 1 run across in the 1st inning to take an early 1-0 lead. An offensive explosion in the 3rd inning produced 4 runs and moved the Ranger lead to 5-0. 2 more insurance runs were plated in the 6th inning to give the Lady Rangers a 7-0 shutout victory. Caitlin Swain pitched all 7 innings, giving up only 5 hits and striking out 2. Also contributing from the plate were Samantha Vasquez (2 for 4, 2 runs scored), Ruby Aguirre (2 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI), and Jessica Polanco (1 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI). The win secured a playoff spot for the Rangers!!!
In Game 2, Grayson outscored the Lady Rangers 7-5. Casarez went 2 for 4 from the plate and scored 2 runs. Vasquez had another good game, 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Lady Rangers begin the Region V North double elimination tournament as the #6 seed on Friday, May 2nd at Noon vs. #3 seed Grayson College. The tourney is at Letourneau University, Longview, Texas.
