RECONSTRUCTION OF SH 6, EASTLAND COUNTY, TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

Motorists should expect reduced speeds, lane closures through work zone

Beginning March 16, 2015, construction crews will begin work to reconstruct a portion of State Highway 6 in Eastland County. Reconstruction will take place from approximately 2 miles west of Gorman to the Comanche County Line.

Crews will mill off the top two-inches of existing roadway before adding additional flex-base and new asphalt. Crews will close one lane at a time with traffic alternating directions through the open lane. Weather permitting, construction should be completed between late-January and early-February 2016.

Drivers should anticipate delays at times and be prepared to encounter narrow lanes. Speeds through the work zone will be reduced to 65 mph. Those traveling through this work zone are urged to exercise caution, obey traffic signs, and avoid any distractions for the safety of themselves and construction crews.

The contract was awarded to Jay Mills Contracting, Inc. at a cost of approximately $5.5 million.
