Mayvis Madeline Lasater, age 101, passed away Friday, September 11, 2015 at the DeLeon Nursing Home. Service were held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Gorman with Barry Schahn officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery. Services under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home in Gorman. Mayvis was born December 8, 1913 in Gorman, Texas to Fred Jay and Mary Lee (Jackson) Jay. She married Hulon Lesley Lasater on December 23, 1931 in Gorman, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1983. Mayvis worked in sewing factories in Gorman, Dublin and Eastland. She also picked peanuts for several years at Birdsong Peanut Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gorman. She is survived by daughter, Lou Evelyn Rodgers of Midlothian; two sons, Brent Lasater and wife, Jean of Gorman and Hal Lasater and wife, Lisa of Waxahachie; six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and son-in-law, Gene Rodgers.
