Joel E. “Joey” Lawson

     WEATHERFORD -- Joel E. “Joey” Lawson, 65, was welcomed into heaven, November 1, 2014.

       Service: A family gathering and service to honor Joel will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Biggers Funeral Chapel. A memorial and celebration of Joel's life and career will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, 200 South Lakeshore Drive, Hudson Oaks, TX  76087. 

Born in Stamford, June 26, 1949, Joel graduated from Stamford High School in 1967. He went on to letter in football at Texas Christian University where he was a defensive lineman for the Frogs for the 1967-1969 seasons. He then graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Education from Western New Mexico University.

       Joel married Linda Stewart on December 26, 1969 and had served in the Texas Army National Guard. He recently retired from Texas Education after 41 years as a teacher, coach, and principal in various Texas cities.

       Joel was preceded in death by his father, Bill, his mother, Betty, and his grandparents, Effie and Ethridge Lawson of Stamford.

       Survivors: Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; a son, Ryan and wife Jodi of Frisco; daughter, Charis and husband Richard David of Benbrook; and grandchildren, Cade, Kelan, and Emily Lawson all of Frisco.
