Helen Howell Orr Obituary
Helen Howell Orr 89 of Hobbs, NM, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 2, 2015.
Graveside services will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery, Cisco, TX, on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. October 6th and from 9:00 a.m. – noon on October 7th at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco, TX.
She was born on March 18, 1926, in Greens Creek, TX, to Walter and Tommie Stuart Howell. She married Vernon Orr on January 6, 1945, in Dallas, TX. He preceded her in death in 2006. Helen was a true Woman of God and was a role model who influenced the lives of so many during her lifetime. She taught Sunday School all of her life with classes ranging from small children to Senior Citizens. She was a witness to all who knew her.
Helen began her career at the Crane Library and then moved to the Medical Records Department at the hospital in Crane. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Wayland Baptist and her Master’s Degree at ACU. Upon their retirement from El Paso Natural Gas Co., she went on to become Hospital Administrator in Cisco and Abilene. She later became a Vice-President of Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene retiring at the age of 74. At that time she became interim administrator for various medical facilities in the surrounding area.
She is survived by a son, Michael Orr and wife Jacque of Jal, NM, a daughter, Lisa and husband Ron Shibata of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren David Orr, Jason Shibata and Lara Shibata, great grandchildren Alan Orr and wife Taylor, and Emily Orr, two sisters Maxine Salyer and Kathy and husband Allen Fine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon Orr, brother Curtis Howell, and grandson Stephen Orr.
