Helen Elizabeth Tapken Hounshell Obituary
CISCO- Helen Elizabeth Tapken Hounshell, 91, of Cisco passed away July 5, 2016 at The Woodlands Assisted Living in Eastland.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:00 am at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco, TX followed by a graveside service in
Oakwood Cemetery, Cisco, TX.
Helen was born February 10, 1925 to Bill and Mary Jane (Gregg) Tapken in Pilger, Nebraska and was raised in Moundridge, Kansas. She graduated from
nursing school in Dodge City, Kansas and in 1943 met and married Raymond Hounshell of Cross Cut, TX. Ray soon left for overseas in World War II.
Upon his return, they lived in various Texas towns while Ray worked in the oil fields and eventually settled in Hobbs, New Mexico where they raised their
three children. Helen worked as a homemaker and later returned to her nursing career. She and Ray retired to Cisco in 1982 and were blessed with 67 years
of marriage before his death in 2010.
Helen was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Cisco, loved playing Scrabble and watching the Texas Rangers. She was proud of
her family, and her descendants owe much of their success and happiness to her and Ray’s hard work, love, and emphasis on citizenship and education.
Helen is survived by her three children: Sheila Rae of Austin, Bill Hounshell and wife Sarah, of Cisco, David Hounshell and wife Nancy Eddy, of
Pittsburgh, PA; nine grandchildren: David Pore and wife Melissa, of Vienna, VA, Matt Pore and wife Carol Chisholm, of Austin, Amy McKay and
husband Stan of Granbury, Ann Maxwell of Cisco, Jane Maples and husband Jim Bob, of Cisco, Kate Hounshell of Cisco, Dr. Jennie Hounshell and
husband Scott Hanson, of Madison, WI, Blake Hounshell and wife Sandy Choi, of Washington DC, Eric Hounshell of Los Angeles, CA; one sister,
Velma Latsis and husband Pete, of Aurora, CO; 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and husband, Ray.
Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco, TX. The family would like to thank
The Woodlands Assisted Living in Eastland for providing a great home for her for the last four years.
