Dr. Shellene Scott Beach

   Dr. Shellene Scott Beach, resident of the Ranger Care Center passed away July 31, 2015, at Eastland Memorial Hospital. 

   Funeral services for Shellene were held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 4,  2015 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Ranger, TX. Visitation was held from 5–7 P.M. Monday, August 3. Burial and graveside services were conducted by Reverend Jerry Maston at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger. Pall bearers were Joe David Scott, Joe Wesley, David Pickrell, Johnny Wells, Doug Crawley, and Nico Gatea.

   Sandra Shellene Beach was born November 11, 1944, in Ranger, TX, to Joe B. Scott and Cecelia McDowell Scott. She attended Ranger schools, graduating from Ranger High School with honors in 1962. While in high school, she was drum major for the Ranger Bulldog Band, editor of the school yearbook, a class favorite, a member of the Beta Club, and participated in school plays. In addition, she was a four year member of the Sub Deb Club.

She earned her Bachelor's Degree at Southern Methodist University where she was on the Dean's List. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and held various offices. She was an active member of the Spanish Club. After graduating from SMU, she earned her Masters Degree from Texas Women's University in Denton, TX. In later years, she received her Doctorate Degree from TWU in Parks Administration. She completed both degrees with honors.

   Dr. Beach was employed for 10 years by the City of Dallas Parks Department. After working in Dallas, she was hired by the City of Plano as Parks and Recreation Superintendent, where she remained for 18 years until her retirement in 2009. During this time, she was elected President of the Texas State Park Association. Shellene was the first woman to ever hold this prestigious office.

   Shellene was preceded in death by her parents.

   She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Susan Barris and Susan's husband Kevin, and two step-grandchildren, Melissa and Matthew Barris. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Shelby Scott and wife Edie, and two sisters, Celeste Scott Hoover and Caprice Scott Gatea and her husband Nico. Surviving nieces include Alyssa Hoover, Dr. Holly Dunn and husband Marcus, Dr. Heather Maston and husband Brandon, Senora Shelbi Scott, and Nicole Gatea. She is also survived by one nephew, Joe David Scott.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the following special people who showed such care and concern for Shellene: Susan Scott, Barbara and Joe Wesley, and best friend, Donna Daughtery.

A special thanks is also due to the staff at the Ranger Care Center for their compassion and help in caring for Shellene.
