CLIFF WATKINS NAMED EASTLAND HIGH'S HEAD COACH

In a Special Called Meeting, on Friday, March 28th, E.I.S.D. named Cliff Watkins as the new Boys Athletic Director/Head Coach.

According to Superintendant, Donald Hughes, approximately 70 applications were received and 7 individuals were interviewed for

the position. "We had some very good applicants and we are happy to recommend Cliff Watkins for the position " stated Hughes.

Currently the Offensive Coordinator for Midland Lee, Mr. Watkins plans to assume his position with E.I.S.D. effective April 7th,

where he has accepted a 2-year contract with the district.

Prior to joining the staff at Midland Lee, Watkins served as passing-game coordinator for Stephenville I.S.D., leading the Yellow

Jackets to win 3A Div I State Championship in 2012. He then moved to Midland Lee as OC where he served under Eastland '82

Maverick, Coach James Morton.

Watkins first year as a coach was in 2004, where he served as Defensive Coordinator for the Cisco Lobo's. It was there that he had

the opportunity to work with Coach Brian Hulett.

A graduate of Breckenridge High School, Coach Watkins and his wife, Elisha have one child, a five year old daughter, Henley. Elisha

grew up in Baird and currently teaches Sophmore English at Midland Lee.

"The Maverick's are a great ball team and I am very excited to work with them" said Watkins. "My family and I look forward to

becoming a part of the Eastland community." he added.

Coach Watkins stated that he will have year-round training with the Mavericks, including 7 on 7 this summer.
