Troy Scitern, age 85 of Gorman, passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Valley View Healthcare Center in Eastland. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Barry Schahn officiating. Burial will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Troy was born July 22, 1930 in Eastland County to Oral Rich and Claudia (Wright) Rich. She married John H. Scitern on July 12, 1946 in Eastland, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2006. She was a member of the Church of Christ. We’ve heard about people who nurture with food. This was certainly true of Troy. If she heard that her kids were coming to see her she would start cooking. If she heard of a death in the community she ran to the kitchen. She was probably most content in her garden and her kitchen. She spent hours working in her garden, then canning her vegetables and serving them… or giving them away to friends and family. She is survived by her daughter, LaVerne Carr and her husband Tommy of Whitey; her son, Johnny Scitern and wife, JoAnn of Gorman; grandsons, Micky Carr of Dallas, Brad Carr of Stephenville and Kris Scitern and wife, Kristin of Gorman; granddaughter, Keri Guthery and husband, Nick of Gorman; great grandchildren, Kelsie, Nashton and Kilee Guthery and Karsyn, Kyndall and Kellan Scitern; and sister-in-law, Alice Rich of Grand Junction, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Lester Rich.
