IMAGES OF VALOR: U.S. LATINOS AND LATINAS IN WORLD WAR II EXHIBIT COMING TO EASTLAND COUNTY MUSEUM

(EASTLAND, TX) – Beginning August 4, 2016, the Eastland County Museum will present “Images of Valor: U.S. Latinos and Latinas in World War II,” an exhibition created by the School of Journalism and Center for Mexican American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin and produced by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Through images and stories, this twelve-panel exhibition provides a historical overview of U.S. Latino participation in World War II.

In addition to photographs from the project's archives, “Images of Valor” incorporates contemporary photographs of men and women of the WWII generation by photojournalist Valentino Mauricio. The exhibition focuses on individual stories that reveal larger themes such as citizenship and civil rights and features excerpts from the more than 500 oral history interviews that were part of the project.

In addition, the Eastland County Museum will include a localized exhibit of Eastland County Latino and Latina Veterans of past and present wars. If you or a family member is a veteran or current service member, please send a photograph and brief biography to be included in this upcoming exhibit. Please do not provide original photos. Eastland County Museum would like to retain all photos and bios provided for historical records.

The exhibition will be open to the public from August 4 to September 10, 2016 during the hours of 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  For more information about viewing hours or to arrange group visits, contact the Eastland County Museum at 254-631-0437. There is never a charge to visit the Eastland County Museum, 114 S. Seaman St., Eastland, TX 76448
