Fire Near Cisco Extinguished: Cisco to Cease Burn Permits

By Justin Brundin

Cisco firefighters responded to a grass fire East of Cisco on Thursday after receiving calls about smoke around 3:15pm on Highway 6. Drivers could smell smoke lofted on the wind from miles away, but steady winds kept the smoke relatively low to the ground, causing some difficulty in initially locating the fire. After the fire was spotted, additional united were requested from Eastland and Carbon to assist with the containment. Driving winds and dry conditions made this a difficult task, but local firefighters held the line protecting residences against the approaching fire. Texas A&M Forestry Service bulldozers arrived to help create more substantial fire lines.
