Spring Sports Winding Down...
The spring sports are beginning to wind down. This past weekend was a flurry of track activity. All of our schools were involved in the Region track and field meets across the state. As you read the various articles in the Sports page, you are going to see how talented our student-athletes are in Eastland County.
One particular student-athlete excelled above the average over the weekend. Gorman Lady Panther Melissa Ramirez has had a remarkable senior year and it continued this past weekend in Bullard at the Region 3 1A meet. Ramirez competed in 5 different events, 3 on her own and 2 relays. As you will see, she was able to qualify for State in ALL 5 events. She received 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals for her efforts this weekend. Obviously, she is headed to Austin…but she is not done with her spring sports. Her Lady Panthers will be taking on Mart this Thursday in the Area round of the 1A softball playoffs. Congrats to Ms. Ramirez and the Lady Panthers!!
The baseball teams of Cisco, Eastland, Gorman and May are preparing themselves for their playoff action. Many great athletes for these teams also gave their all in the regional track meets this past weekend, too. Cisco was able to win the boys’ Region 1 2A track meet. Yovani Palacios of Gorman, part of the district champion Gorman Panthers, qualified for state in the 400m. Isaac Williams of May, a key ingredient in the Tigers’ playoff run, also qualified for state in the 3200m.
Not lost in the hustle of the diamond and the track are the pars and birdies shot by the Eastland Mavericks’ boy’s golf team. They are right in the middle of their STATE tournament in Austin. These boys have worked hard to get where they are, and now they take on 12 other good golf teams from around the state. Check out our FB page or website for up-to-date information.
We also have 3 area softball teams starting their playoff runs this week. By the time you read this, Cisco and Ranger have already played their first round games and Gorman will play their first game on Thursday.
The Stars and the Mavericks are both in the playoffs. The Rangers are battling for 1st place early in the season. The Cowboys are talking about trying to get “Johnny Football” in the first round of the draft. Metroplex sports are going strong!!! And so are the Eastland County sports!!!
This Sunday is a very special day….”May the Fourth Be With You” It’s Star Wars Day!!! December 2015 cannot get here quick enough!
Enjoy the playoff runs and MAKE SOME MEMORIES!!!
