Local Resident Joins His Siblings For Program Honoring Their Late Parents

Dr. Billy T. and Norma Carpenter of Rising Star traveled to London Sunday for the unveiling of a plaque honoring his late parents, Richard and Jimmie Inez Carpenter, at the London First Baptist Church. Dr. Carpenter’s parents were an integral part of the London community for many years and were dedicated members of their church. Following the church service and luncheon, a short program was held and several people recounted how the couple had worked in the church and were a vital part of its history. Many of the couple’s descendants were in attendance including all their surviving children: (back row) Roy Carpenter, Dr. Billy T. Carpenter, Jay Carpenter, Jimmy “Sonny” Carpenter, (front) Barbara Steward and Alice Ruth Allen. After the program many of the family members visited the Carpenter homestead which was built in 1942 and is still in the Carpenter family. Dr. Carpenter pointed to the field across the road from the house to where a female pilot crashed landed a plane in the 1940’s. Inside the house the siblings took turns reminiscing and sharing stories from their youth.
