Events Center Gets New Mower

Board members on the Rising Star ISD Education Foundation are happy to report that through the generosity of the Sears store in Abilene, they have been able to pur-chase a new riding lawn mower for the Higginbothams Event Center. According to Ben Childers, Executive Director, Sears worked with the Foundation and enabled them to buy a mower that they could afford. “Our old mower was worn out and beyond repair, so we were in great need of a mower. We are very grateful to Sears for their help,” Childers said.The new mower will be used in the upkeep of the Event Cen-ter’s grounds and will also be used for yard maintenance for local resi-dents. Childers explained that some Rising Star High School students have the opportunity to participate in the Beautiflcation Program of- ered through the Foundation. Ac-cording to Childers, this program allows upperclassmen to assist Ris-ing Star residents with clean up and upkeep of their personal property in return for earning money for post-secondary education.
