Whitmire Johnson
Hester Lucille Duncan Whitmire Johnson, 72, was born to Rhodes Mattox and Jeanettie Wheeler Duncan on September 29, 1942, in Ranger, Texas. After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Lucy passed from this earth into Heaven on Wednesday, July 2, 2015. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Throckmorton on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your local public library. Lucy was named for each of her grandmothers. Lucy found the Lord at a very early age, and she loved not only spreading the Word of God but also living it. In 1960, she graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Hurst. Later in life, she completed two Associates Degrees through Dallas County Community College. Lucy lived most of her adult life in Plano, Texas. She had a successful career in Insurance as well as Information Technology. She worked for Wang Laboratories, one of the first computer companies, and later traveled across the country teaching computer classes for school districts. She also traveled internationally to Europe and Mexico, and never met a stranger. Her love of cooking led her to join a gourmet dinner club in Dallas and Lucy often tried the same recipes on her family. Lucy became a consultant with Pampered Chef to share cooking knowledge with her clients. Lucy was an avid reader and loved the fine arts: the opera, ballet, and symphony. She also painted, did needlework, made her own paper for calligraphy, and created origami. Lucy was a gardener and a talented at arranging flowers. She wasstylish and loved bright colors and unique jewelry. Her beloved pets were her poodle, La Petite, and cat, Leviticus. She is survived by her four sisters, Beverly Neely of Ranger, Janice (Jim) Dykes of Houston, Ronette Duncan of Bedford, and Suzette Smith of Throckmorton, 10 nieces and nephews; 9 great-nieces and nephews; 3 greatgreat nieces and nephews, uncles Jimmie (Neta) Wheeler of Cottonwood and Kenneth (Jo) Wheeler of Whitewright, aunt Roberta Duncan of Ranger, numerous cousins and many friends. Her family sends a special thanks to the caregivers at Throckmorton Nursing and Rehabilitation, Seymour Nursing Home and IntegraCare Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
