Wayne Clark Durham

      Wayne Clark Durham passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, in Austin, Texas.  

   He had lived in the Austin/Georgetown area for several years.

   Wayne was born on February 25, 1938, in Antelope Flat, Briscoe County, Texas. Wayne was the third child and only son of Jefferson Clark (John) and Agnes Allene Thomas Durham.

  In 1947, the family moved to Peaster, Texas.  In the next few years, they also lived in Olney, Brady, Shreveport, Dallas, and Eastland.

   Graduating from Eastland High School in 1957, Wayne was proud to play

football there.  The Mavericks went to the state semifinals in 1956, his senior year. Since Wayne had moved to Eastland from Dallas, he became known as DALLAS, or BIG ‘D’.

   Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1958. He served in Colorado and Virginia before being stationed in Korea.  Upon his discharge, he attended Tarleton State College, where

he received a bachelor’s degree in business.

   Wayne married Betty Garrett in the 1960’s.  She preceded him in death, as did two of her four children, Pam and Larry, and grandson, Austin Wayne Curb.

   Wayne worked as a building contractor in Big Spring, Texas.  Later, he drove a truck, making runs to all states in the continental United States.  He was based in Abilene and Georgetown.

   Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, John and Allene Durham, two younger sisters, June Tankersley and Dixie Edwards, three brothers-in-law, Neal Tankersley,

Tommy Edwards, and Jon R. Tate, one nephew, Jonny Tate, and grandparents, Jeptha Richard (Jeff) and Lula Mae Parish Thomas and William Richard (W.R.) and Nannie Mae Arnold Durham.

   Wayne is survived by two sisters, Glenda Crandall and her husband Bob, and JoAnn Tate; two nephews, Mark Crandall and Charlie Wolford; and five nieces,

Karen Crandall, Julia Lawrence (Mark), Stefanie Janicek (Steve), Susie Guven (Serhat), and Shannon Tankersley.

   Graveside services will be held at the Moran Cemetery in Moran, Texas on Saturday, January 30th between 10:30-11am.
