Shelby Wallace (Van) Vandivere

ALBANY – Shelby Wallace (Van) Vandivere, 87, of Albany died Sunday, April 10, 2016 at an Abilene hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the

Albany Cemetery with Jeff Pleasant officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Friendship Baptist Church in Albany. 

 

Van was born March 17, 1929 in Anson to Ernest Albert and Tressie (Martin) Vandivere. He graduated from Rising Star High School. He married Georgia Whitt in Cisco on December 18, 1948

and shortly after they moved to Albany from Moran. He was a heavy equipment operator for Ayers Dozer for 57 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Georgia Vandivere; two sons, Doug Vandivere and wife Reba of Conroe and Jerry Vandivere and wife Lori of Mineral Wells; a daughter Sue Williams

of College Station; brother Willie Vandivere and wife Sue of Rising Star; three sisters, Ernestine Rankin and husband Jay of Early, Charlene Hines of Grand Prairie and Nadine Pilcher and

husband Jack of San Angelo; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. 

 

Preceding him in death were his parents, a grandson Doug Vandivere, Jr., sister Eula Mae Vandivere and a son-in-law Bobby Williams.
