Rozelle Caraway

 Rozelle Caraway, 96, died Monday, December 21st, 2015, at the Hendricks Hospital in Abilene.  She will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 26th , at the Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Gorman.  Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. to the time of the service on Saturday as well.  Brother Barry of the Gorman First Baptist will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Simpson Cemetery near Kokomo.

She was born on October 25, 1919 to Trannie Nae and Ambers  Lasater in Gorman.    She grew up in the Carbon – Kokomo Community where she attended the Kokomo School.  She was married to J. C. (Jake) Caraway on December 19, 1936,  in Eastland, Texas.   Together they owned a farm in the Kokomo Community on which they operated a dairy, then raised turkeys, and later farmed peanuts.  She was a dedicated busy farm wife who helped Jake with the dairy and the turkeys while she was raising two children.  She attended the Primitive Baptist Church.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jake, in 1976, and one grandson, Allen Scitern.

After Jake’s death, she moved to Eastland where she worked in the Eastland Nursing Home as a house keeper and later she worked full time as a “care giver” to the sick and elderly in the Eastland area.  She was a very caring individual who was very good at taking care of others.

She enjoyed being active in her grandchildren’s activities and spending time with her family. She took pleasure in cooking for her family and having them together often as long as she was able.   She loved planting and caring for flowers in her yard. 

Survivors include two children:  Bo Caraway and wife, Pat, of Gorman, and daughter, Kathy Scitern and husband, Glenn, of Kokomo;  and one sister-in-law Margie Lasater of Eastland and several nephews and nieces.   Six grandchildren include Shannon Caraway, Shane Caraway, Tonya  Cammack, Scott Scitern, Stephen Scitern, Rebecca Woodall, and Jennifer Young.  Great grandchildren include Sara Woodall, Beth Woodall, Randy Woodall, Garrett Scitern, Colton Scitern, Haley Majors, Taw Scitern, Briar Scitern, Kody Sparger, Kade Sparger,   Kamren Sparger, Jake Caraway, Morgan Caraway, Claire Cammack, Stella Cammack, Reece Scitern,  Laney Scitern and 4 great- great- grandchildren.  -
