Evelyn Collum Daniel Obituary
Evelyn Collum Daniel, 96, born March 6, 1920, died July 21, 2016 in Austin, Texas after a long, fruitful and beautiful life.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland with a
burial to follow in the Eastland City Cemetery.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband Varge D. Daniel, her parents, G.W. and Myrtle Lavinia Collum, her
brother Glen Collum, her sister Kathleen Collum Watkins and brother in law James Howard Watkins. They are having a
reunion in heaven, including music with the angels!
Her survivors include nieces and nephews, who enjoyed her as a “second mother” and spent many memorable times with
Evelyn and Varge at their ranch in Eastland, Texas and their retirement home in Abilene, Texas. Survivors include Michael
and Cheri Watkins, Janet Watkins Jendron, Dwain and Trina Daniel, Dwight and Linda Daniel, Jim and Taylor Watkins, Dennis
and Martha Daniel, Dan and Bonnie Watkins, Donna (Daniel) and Pat Kelley, Mary Jane (Daniel) and Frank Sewill and Diane (Daniel) Browand.
During her life, Evelyn was an unselfish servant to others, supporting her family, friends and community in many different endeavors.
Her gifts of organization and hospitality brought many people to her home, where we all felt welcomed with wonderful food, music and
entertainment specific to our needs. Following in her family tradition, she was an accomplished musician, serving as organist and choir
director at the First Christian Church, Eastland, Texas. We will all remember her artistic talent through her paintings. She played
competitive golf and loved the outdoors. She graduated from Tarleton Junior College with a business degree, and her skills were an
asset to the family ranch and in her work during World War II.
Evelyn’s family wants to express our gratitude for her love, support and hospitality throughout our lives. We loved descending on
her house, filling every corner and making ourselves completely at home! She put herself last, promoting her family and friends,
loving unconditionally. She taught us how to live a balanced life, as well as to age gracefully and humbly. Well done, good and faithful servant!
