Edward Glenn (E.G.) Henderson

 

   GORMAN- Edward Glenn (E.G.) Henderson, 87 of Lake Leon passed from this life on Saturday, July 16, 2016. 

   Services were  at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday,  July 19, 2016 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Denver Rainey officiating. Pallbearers were 

Frank Precht, Robert Freeman, Jeff Boudston, Cecil Everton, James Bruton, Jason Henderson, Jeff Edson and Cole Michael. Interment will be private at the Gorman-Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation with family was before the service at 9:30 A.M. in the chapel.    

   E. G. was born in the Staff Community on August 11, 1928.  He was the son of Chester L. Henderson and Vera Jones Henderson.  He served in the USAF from 1951 to 1954. 

He purchased Shelly’s Variety Store in 1958 and moved to Gorman.  He was a member of the Gorman Business Men’s Club, 

a charter member of the Chamber of Commerce, being the first secretary-treasurer.  He received the Man of the Year Award presented by the Chamber of Commerce in 1967. 

He served as secretary on the Gorman School Board for six years and was a charter member of the Gorman Industrial Foundation.  He was a member on the Selective Service

Board during the Vietnam War.  He worked for Southwestern Peanut Growers Association from 1971 to 1980 and was co-owner of the Gorman & Glen Rose Television Cables.

He was the owner of Henderson’s Quickway Grocery and Deli from 1980 to 1995 and a cattle rancher until 2016.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

   He is survived by his wife, Nancy Grady Henderson; son, Kelly Henderson and wife, Evie of Bedford; daughter, Krista Michael of Bedford; grandsons, Jason Henderson and wife,

Kaitlyn of McKinney, Cole Michael and wife, Katie of Midland; granddaughers, Stephanie Edson and husband, Jeff of Riverview, FL, and Melissa Henderson of Houston; brother,

Chester J. Henderson and wife, Elizabeth of Abilene; nieces, Linda Hoefer, Patty Tessen, and Amy Collier.
