Dorothy Simmons Obituary
CISCO-- Dorothy Simmons, 92, of Abilene and formerly of Cisco passed from this life Saturday, Octobr 31, 2015 at her home.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Cisco Church of Christ with Larry Fitzgerald and Chris McCurley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Visitation will from 1:00 PM until service time Tuesday.
Dorothy was born May 15, 1923 in Santo, Texas the daughter of John and Hotona (Jones) Thornton. She graduated from Santo schools and attended college for one year. She later graduated from Cisco Junior College with certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and served people until her retirement. Dorothy was Valedictorian of both her high school and college graduating classes She Married George Crosswaite Simmons on February 9, 1941 George preceded her in death December 29, 2009 after 68 years of marriage. Dorothy was a lifelong Christian and member of The Church of Christ for many years in Cisco and presently the Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. She served her Lord as teacher in bible class and also bible school, she served people as a quilter, gardener, and seamstress and delivered Meals-on-Wheels to shut-ins. She always expected the best of everyone.
Wife, Mother, and Granny her survivors include: Children: Evelyn Muncy and husband Kenneth of Tyler; George Simmons, Jr and wife Linda of Gorman; Johnny Simmons and wife Debbie of Petrolia: and Toni Little and husband Jimmy of Abilene. Grandchildren are Lisa and Dwight Yokum; Michael and Stacy Muncy; Ricky and Janie Files; Lori and Larry Womack; Jennifer and Andy Booher; Mark and Jeanette Simmons; Mason Simmons; Dustin and Angeleah Simmons; Russell and Clair Simmons; Randy Little, and Sara and Jay Bailey. 30 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a grandson Ryan Little.
