CISCO- Donald True Gorr, 87, of Cisco, Texas, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, Texas after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8th, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Cisco, Texas with Bruce Stovall officiating and Dr. Kelvin Kelley and Tim Penney assisting. Burial followed at the Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco. The family received friends at the Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. Don was born on August 14, 1927, in Murray Iowa. He lived with his family in Iowa until moving to Texas when he was 16. He was not very happy about leaving Iowa and his friends, but said he would go to Texas if he could take his dog and his parents allowed. Upon arriving in Cisco, Texas, where some family had already moved earlier, he enrolled at Cisco High School where he made friends and found Texas not to be so bad. Upon enrollment he also became a Cisco Lobo where he was a fan of the many Loboes that would go through in the following years including his kids and grandkids. He attended Cisco Junior College for a short time before being drafted into the United States Army. After his service in the United States Army, he returned to Cisco where he worked various jobs before finding his niche in Petroleum Sales. He owned his own business Gorr Gas Company and later Gorr Oil Company. During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Ouida Vondelle Gorr. They married on September 10, 1954 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this last September with many family and friends. Together Don and Ouida ran the companies for 60 years until Don’s retirement at the age of 85. He safely hauled fuel for millions of miles with customers that were like family. He has spent many hours in the homes of customers visiting, eating pie, or drinking a glass of tea. He treasured his customers more than words because he valued not just their business but their friendship. Don served several terms on the Cisco Independent School Board. He was also a member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years and was ordained a Deacon in June of 1975. Don loved a good time – a good game of dominoes, a good camping trip to the Frio River, good wins by the Cisco Loboes, watching his grandkids play sports, march in the band, or show their animals. His family and friends were his world of joy. He was ornery and loved to kid people or have it done to himself - for this he always felt was a showing of fun and love- and laughter was always good for the soul. He will be missed more than words by his wife, kids, and grandkids but we all know that he is with our God and one day will be joined by us. Until that day, we go on like he taught us throughout the years. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alice Gorr; a brother, Garl Gorr; and two sisters, Lillian Hansen and Eva Humphries. Don is survived by his loving wife, Ouida Vondelle Gorr; one daughter, Patti Kent and husband Craig and their three children Austin, Colton, and Kelsey of Cisco; and one son, Robert and wife Kerstin and their three children, Keeleigh, Kambrie, and Kreed also of Cisco. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
