Cleta Mae Coffman Obituary

Cleta Mae Coffman

RANGER – Cleta Mae Coffman, age 87, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 7, 2015 in Wylie, TX.  Graveside services for Cleta will be at 2 pm Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Bullock Cemetery located 3 ½ miles north of Ranger on Hwy 717 under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger.  A visitation will be held from 12 – 1:30 pm at the funeral home before the service.

Cleta was born October 20, 1927 in Desdemona, TX to Harvey Kitchel Clark and Nettie Eula (Goforth) Clark.  She attended school in Desdemona and in 1946 graduated from High School.  After graduation Cleta worked for her mother Nettie in the family café in Desdemona.  On May 8, 1954 she married the love of her life Alton D. Coffman in Ft. Worth, TX.

Cleta worked as a seamstress for Hollywood Vassarette for many years until the closing of the factory.  She also worked at the Rexall Drug Store in Ranger in the Soda Fountain and in cosmetics.  After retirement, the farm became her life.  Cleta loved to garden and helped take care of the over 300 goats she and Alton had at one time.  She would just throw on her boots and take off.  She loved the farm life and would drive a 3 wheeler all over the farm but Cleta never got her driver’s license.

Cleta was also very active in the East Side Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and VBS.  She was also a member of the choir and loved to sing praises to the Lord often being the loudest one.  Cleta was also known for her chocolate and coconut cream pies which she was more than happy to supply for any and all church event.  Cleta loved cats and would never turn away a hungry cat, feeding all the cats in the area that came her way.

With all this in her life, it was no wonder Cleta was always smiling.  She was blessed, never met a stranger and loved her family, the Lord and life.

Cleta is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years Alton Coffman, one precious baby boy, Glen Michael Graham whom she was only able to share a very short few hours with.  She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Joe Clark and Bobby Lee Clark and one sister Betty Jane.

Cleta is survived by two daughters, Shelia Edmonds of Lavon, TX and Peggy Hammett and husband Harry of Seabrook, TX, three grandchildren: Kyla Burns and husband T.J. of Royse City, TX, Kyge Edmonds and wife Lisa of Denton, TX and Michelle TheBurge of Seabrook, TX.  Cleta is also survived by 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
