James Albert Jay, age 66 of Gorman, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Eastland Memorial Hospital.

 

Service was held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Kelly Jay officiating.  Burial  followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery.

 

James was born March 22, 1949 in Gorman to Thurman Lee Jay, Jr. and Claudia Mary (Lennington) Jay.  He graduated from Gorman High School in 1967 where he won several sports awards.  He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1972.  James married Cecilia Ann Campbell on July 5, 1980 in Bowie, Texas.  James and Ann were blessed with two sons. 

 

James started working at Jay’s Grocery and Market as a youth.  He went on to manage the store until 1985 when the store was sold.  For two years he also had Jay’s Bookeeping.  Then in 1979 he opened Jay’s Insurance Agency.  In the early 1980’s he purchased his first convenience store and continued in the convenience store business until 2006.   He then became a real estate agent and broker.

 

He enjoyed hunting during the earlier years, playing bridge, attaining his life masters in 2015.  Meeting and talking to new acquaintances was almost like a hobby.  But most of all James enjoyed activities with his sons. James is the 5th generation of Jays in Eastland County.  

 

He is survived by his wife, Ann of Gorman; two sons, TJ of Lubbock and Russell of Stephenville and his daughter-in-law to be Madysen Gosnell of Aledo; two brothers, William Lee Jay and Robert (Bobby) Jay both of Gorman and sister, Mary Linda McCormick of Aledo; four nephews and four nieces.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Visitation was 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
