Water Main Breaks Drain Strawn Water Reserves
Over the past two days, Strawn citizens have experienced two major water outages following large water main breaks. The first was reported at approximately 8:00am on November 30th, 2014 on the lake road near town. The leak was strong, forcing Public Works to shut off flow to the town to prevent the water tower from emptying completely.
Volunteers and former public works employees all pitched in digging by hand around the water leak, assisting with locating and repairing the leak, and patching everything back up. Alderwoman Gina Baker brought lunch for the volunteers and repair crew, while Mayor Tye Jackson lent a hand shoveling dirt.
The second leak was reported on a six inch pipe early in the morning on December 1st. With the tower again in danger of emptying, Public Works shut off water supply to the entire south end of Stawn. Due to the close proximity of other utility lines, the repairs were conducted a little more slowly than usual.
With cold weather blowing in, water line breaks are always a possibility. The City of Strawn encourage citizens to report outages or discoloration.
