On Monday,  June 15 at 6:00 pm at the Myrtle Wilkes Center in Cisco, Ronnie White and Robin Hayes will be holding their monthly meeting of the Salt & Light Ministry which focuses on the Political issues of today and how Christians should become active and  involved in ensuring their values are represented in  government.

In today's society  this topic has become  touchy, even taboo in many circles. No one enjoys the arguments or even condemnations that come along with the association of politics and church. However, this meeting's goal is not to sway individuals to vote for any one politician, nor to influence anyone to follow any certain movements in politics.

According to Mr. White, the main goal is to "help educate  church members and  citizens  alike about the issues confronting this country,  "how we can impact these issues by contacting our congressmen and letting them know how we believe and how they can best represent us."

The meeting centers around  the issues at hand, explaining and discussing  how laws are enacted in Congress. From there Christians are encouraged to be active in knowing who represents us, what these  truly stand for, by going over their records of voting and passing of bills in Washington, following the histories of each.

Mr. White presses the issue that the politicians are in place to represent the people, yet how are they to know what we expect as a group, if we do not voice our opinions and let our values be known. Politicians are left to their own decisions, often for several years, enacting laws that many of their constituents are morally against.  “It is our place to make sure they understand what we expect, and we cannot do this by simply sitting back and not being actively involved in what is going on in the government today” White said.

The need to be actively involved in our government today is not merely for the Christians. Even  those who do not claim the Christian faith, the question is "Do you want a government that makes moral decisions, that guides this country in a direction that has values?" How are we to ever do that if we do not become involved?

"We firmly believe that the only thing worse than not voting is to vote for someone with little or no Christian moral Value”, White emphasized.

For  members in our community who want to have an impact on the direction that they see our government going today, this meeting will be very beneficial. For those who do not believe their vote truly counts, yet is discouraged all the same by today's political atmosphere, it is ever more important to become involved and informed.

Our nation was set up "By the people, and For the People."
