Gregory Simmons Memorial Airport was the scene of the departure of local and state officials to survey the path and damages from the tornado of May 9th, 2015. This tornado left one fatality, numerous people hospitalized and wide spread destruction of rural homes, property and livestock. Texas Agricultural Commissioner, Sid Miller, Eastland County Judge Rex Fields and Cisco Mayor James King got a bird's eye view of the havoc created by the fierceness of an F3 tornado.

Arriving back at the GSMA tarmac, Sid Miller said, "It is absolutely heartbreaking." "Some of the structures in the whole area are leveled." He spoke of the sight of all the trees broken, roofs missing and an entire greenhouse that was demolished. The path of destruction was quite apparent to all those who made the overhead tour from the Wilks' helicopter. Miller also told of the time he worked as a youth, at the farm where the greenhouse once stood.

Commissioner Miller wanted to assure those affected, that everything is being done to get them some help as soon as possible. This survey from the air will hopefully expedite the aid that is forthcoming for the victims of the tornado. According to Miller,  assistance will be put on a fast-track system.
