FROM SACK TO BACK

As a kid you listen to your folks tell stories of when they were growing up and what some of the times meant to them. Joys, hardships, spooky stories and family legend will all tend to crop up in the conversation, out under the mulberry tree, on a summer evening. The breeze lifts and cools, the stars twinkle and wait expectantly. A story is coming. A tale to remember and help you figure out just who you are in this great big world. Bienville, Louisiana, Circa 1936 Back in the 1930’s, before moving to Texas, my Dad’s family were sharecroppers in Louisiana. My Granddad Byers worked with mules in his fields. Later, after a back injury, most of the family spent their time raising crops and living life as best they could.
