Panthers “D” Big In 1st District Win

By Stephen Forester

The Gorman Panthers used a stifling defense to keep the Gordon Longhorns off the scoreboard, limiting shots and only allowing 8 first half points. The Panthers used this advantage to win their first district game of the year, defeating Gordon 55-31. The win moves the Panther overall record over .500 at 9 wins and 8 losses and 1 win and 0 losses in District 18. Led by Flavio Herrera and Yovani Palacios, the Panthers built a nice 16-4 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. The second quarter was not as good for the Panthers as the first, but they continued the defensive pressure on Gordon, only allowing 4 2nd quarter points, while putting up 8 of their own to hold a 24-8 halftime lead
