Mavericks Pound the Paint for Bi-District Title

14-5 3rd Quarter the Difference

A trio of Maverick big men pounded the paint in the third quarter, enabling the Mavs to make up a 3 point deficit and take a 6 point lead into the fourth quarter.  The Mavs sustained the lead throughout the fourth quarter and took the Bi-District Championship with a 40-32 victory over the Comanche Indians.  The Indians did what they had to do in the first half, keeping the Mavs out of the paint and forcing shots from the perimeter, shots that weren't falling.  However, in the second half, Peyton Bird, Brant Bailey and Deric Stacy found openings in the Indian defense.  Bird scored 4 of his team leading 10 points in the third.  Stacy scored all 4 of his points in the third and Bailey got physical with 2 points with a hard drive to the hoop.  Bailey finished with 7.  Eastland will play the winner of Reagan Co. and San Angelo TLCA who play Tuesday night in Big Spring for the AREA championship this weekend.
