Art Exhibit and Sale To Be Held At Rising Star Event Center November 1

By Paula Carpenter

Local artist, La Juan Killion, will exhibit her paintings at the Rising Star Event Center Saturday, November 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Killion, whose paintings have won a score of ribbons at numerous art shows, said that a number of her works will be offered for sale during the exhibit. The paintings include landscapes, portraits and still life. Killion said that her interest in art began at an early age. Even as a young student, Killion was fascinated with drawing. “In school I drew all over my book covers, and my notebooks were always full of my drawings,” she laughed. Her fascination for art continued after high school, and in 1957 she began painting with oils, but later switched to acrylic and for the past 5 years Killion said that she has been working with watercolors. During her career as an artist, Killion has also enjoyed painting different subjects. “When I first started painting, I concentrated on still life, but later I began painting portraits and landscapes,” she said.
