Jody Wayne Swinney Obituary
Jody Wayne Swinney, 52, of Big Spring, Texas, died July 17, 2015, in a motor vehicle accident. The family received friends Thursday, July 23, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Baptist Church with Randy Cotton and Joey Bacon officiating.
He was born in Ranger, Texas on June 5, 1963 to Johnny Swinney and Jayme Barker. Jody graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1981, where he excelled in soccer and tennis. He married Teri Marie Orr on March 20, 1993.
Jody loved football, horses, working with kids and mostly his family. He was a member of the Chickasaw Nation and was proud of his Indian heritage. A favorite activity was attending his daughter’s high school football games and cheerleading enthusiastically from the stands. His daughters say he loved Reese’s candy and teasing them. A devoted father and husband, most of the family photos he’s behind the camera capturing thousands of memorable moments. Jody was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Jody and Teri moved to Big Spring in 1999 after living and working in Fort Worth, Texas and Taos, N.M. They were the owners/operators of the Big Spring Sears Dealer Store for more than 11 years. He was most recently a Claim Service Analyst for Allstate Insurance Company.
He is survived by his wife Teri; daughters Alysha, 19, Miranda, 17, and Bailey, 16; mother, Jayme Barker of Granbury, Texas; father and step-mother, Johnny and Betty Swinney of Ranger; sisters, Janet Swinney of Big Spring and Jayne Swinney of Granbury; and many nieces and nephews, as well as his “little brother” James Parsons of Fort Worth.
