Barbara Lou Hollis

 

            OKLAHOMA- Barbara Lou Hollis departed her earthly life and was received into the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, February 22, 2016.

She was 85 years old. 

   A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Broken Arrow, OK.  

  Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until shortly before the service.

            Barbara was born in Wichita, Kansas on July 21, 1930 to Victor Esco and Kathleen Nadine (Bell) Weaver. She graduated from Odessa High School in

1946 and later acquired college coursework in accounting, purchasing, and shorthand. For most of her adult life she was employed in bookkeeping and secretarial

positions, including a number of years at the Internal Revenue Service. 

            Barbara's first marriage, to Billy D. Pogue, was blessed with six children.  Her second marriage, to Roy Coleman Hollis, resulted in her seventh child as

well as four stepchildren.  Barbara looked at her 11 children, 25 grandchildren, over 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter as her most

important legacy and loved them all deeply.  

            In her free time, Barbara enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, cooking, canning, working crossword puzzles, and bowling. Until her health got in the way,

she was extremely active in her church, completing training as a Lay Minister and teaching classes for children preparing for communion. As a member of Al-Anon,

she also sponsored an Al-A-Teen group for several years.  

        Barbara is survived by--   Children: Billy Kendall “Rusty” Pogue and wife Chris, Cody, WY,  Phillip Daniel “Bubba” Pogue and wife Monti, Eastland, TX,

         Stephanie Lenora “Sis” Pogue, McKinney, TX,  Theda Antoinette “Toni” Pogue, Round Rock, TX,  Lillis Kathleen "Kathy" Cole and husband Donnie, Hamilton, TX,

         Susan Elaine "Susie" Pogue, Austin, TX,   Cheryl Louise Magness and husband Phillip, Broken Arrow, OK;   Stepchildren:   Jo Ann Greenwood, Ranger, TX,

   Patsy Splawn, Ranger, TX;  Step-daughter-in-law, Barbara K. Hollis, Round Rock, TX;   Step-daughter-in-law Elsie Hollis, Sweeney, TX;  25 Grandchildren,

  Over 40 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild;  Aunt, Mary Purdy, Eugene, OR;  Niece, Kimberly Bland, Rio Vista, TX

 

    Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and stepchildren: James Larry Hollis and Jerry Glenn Hollis.
