Al Anderson Obituary
CISCO- Al Anderson 87, of Cisco passed away March 29, 2016 in Cisco. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday April 2, 2016 at First Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Kelvin Kelley
and Reverend Cecil Deadman under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral home. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Al was born May 25, 1928 in Coleman County to Matt and Ann (Merrill) Anderson. He attended school in Novice, Texas graduating in 1945. He went to work at Fort Hood for
Lundy Hooker as a watch repairman. In 1946 Mr. Hooker came to Cisco to open a jewelry store at 516 Avenue D (now Conrad Hilton) and Al started working for him.
Mr. Hooker passed away in 1952 and Al continued to manage the store for his widow and children. On March 1, 1956 Al married LaNelle (Hale) at East Cisco Baptist
Church in Cisco. In 1971 Al purchased the business and would have been in business 70 years in July 2016. In 1981 he put in musical instruments and supplies.
In 1950, Al played weekly with the stage band every Saturday night in Breckenridge, Texas at the American Legion Hall. Later this band played back up for
Elvis Presley who was booked at the high school. Elvis arrived in a pink satin suit and a pink Cadillac car and was paid $ 350.00.
Al played for years in the nursing homes in Eastland, Cisco, Ranger, Baird, Abilene, Haskell, and Albany. He was also played at the Gholson Hotel in Ranger,
and The Pizza House in Clyde, he also played in Tye, Texas and Anson, Texas. He played with the Four and More Band for over 25 years. For 39 years
he furnished the PA system and was the M.C. for the musical entertainment at the Folk life Festival in Cisco. He retired from the festival in 2015.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years LaNelle, two sons: Kendall Anderson and wife Leanne of Weatherford and Kyle Anderson and wife Shelly of
Wichita Falls, Texas. 10 grandchildren: Kelsey Laughmiller and husband Micah, Kent Anderson, Laney Anderson, Ethan Anderson, Exavier Anderson ,
Mason Anderson, Chris Anderson, Emily Anderson, Madison Anderson, and Meagan Anderson. 1 great grandchild: Amos Laughmiller. 1 niece:
Joylene Roye, 2 nephews: Douglas Shields and wife Judy and Michael Grimes and wife Judy. Several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters: Lydia Rentz, Monterey Grimes, and Callie Shields. One infant brother, and a brother; Jim Anderson.
One grandson: Aaron Kyle Anderson.
Al was a former president of the Cisco Rotary Club, Jaycees, and filmed the Lobo football games in and out of town for over 30 years with good
friend Lloyd McGrew. Al proclaimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a deacon for many years serving at East Cisco Baptist Church and had been an active
member of the First Baptist Church of Cisco for 25 years.
