EASTLAND- Ben Vincent Sancillo, 88 of Eastland, Texas, went to be with The Lord on May 22 2015 in Eastland, Texas. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2015 at Edwards Funeral Home, Rosary followed at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service was held by Father Balaji Boyalla at St Rita’s Catholic Church, Ranger TX at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 26, 2015. Burial was immediately following at the Eastland City Cemetery. Ben was born on January 22, 1927 in Mart, Texas to Andres and Santiaga Sancillo. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two sisters, three brothers, and his wife Mary Beatrice Sancillo in 1997 after 45 years of marriage. As a child, Ben grew up helping on the family farm in Texas and later in Mississippi. As a young man, Ben entered military service at the height of World War II serving in combat aboard the USS Washington and USS Mississippi. Later he transferred to the Air Force and served in combat tours during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He retired and moved his family to Eastland after 22 years of honorable military service in 1967. He began a career as a peace officer for the Eastland Police Department as Sergeant, Eastland County Sherriff’s Department as Chief Deputy, and for the Ranger Police Department as acting Chief. He was recognized in 1982 as Eastland County’s Lawman of the Year. After 22 years of law enforcement duty, he retired to enjoy raising cattle, growing crops, and fishing on his ranch with visiting children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a parishioner at St Rita’s Catholic Church, Ranger Texas and active member of VFW post 4136. He is survived by his children, Richard A. Sancillo (wife Juanita) of Ft Worth TX, Vincent C. Sancillo of Ft Worth TX, David D. Sancillo (wife Janie) of Eastland TX, Cynthia M. Lampkin (husband Anthony) of Ft Worth TX and Manuel L. Sancillo (wife Debora) of Marion TX; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
