Robert “Bob” Gleason Perkins

 

 

Eastland- Robert “Bob” Gleason Perkins, 94, of Eastland passed away on April 23, 2015 in his childhood home with family by his side. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, father in-law, brother, uncle, and friend.

 

His service will be at 2 PM Saturday, April 25, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Eastland. The visitation is going to be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. All arrangements made under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home Eastland.

 

He is survived by his 3 daughters: Sally and Jim Arnold of Conroe, Mary and Gary Spradling of Waco, Emily and Jim Karlak of San Antonio; 8 grandchildren: Robert Arnold, Sarah Arnold, Elizabeth McDonald, Jay Arnold, Lauren Steen, Emily Freeman, Allison Rogers, and Kara Choate, and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 nieces Emily Beyette and Susan Bonner.

 

Bob was predeceased by his wife of 43 years and devoted mother of his children, Rebecca Smoot Perkins; his cherished second wife, Mary Lou Frost Perkins; his sisters, Dorothy Perkins and Betty Beyette; and his parents.

 

He was born October 28, 1920, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, son of Joseph and Emily Perkins. He and his family moved to Eastland, Texas, during the Oil Boom in 1925, where he has been a lifelong resident. 

 

In 1942, Bob left his studies at Texas Tech to enlist in the US Army. He was stationed in England throughout World War II. He returned to Texas in 1945 to complete his degree. He married Rebecca Smoot of Colorado City, Texas, and they established their home at 501 Pershing Street where their daughters, Sally, Mary, and Emily grew up. Bob owned and operated Perkins Implement Company for 50 years. He was a community leader, serving on the City Council, School Board, and Water Board. After the death of his wife, Rebecca he married Mary Lou Frost in 1997. They resided at Lake Leon. Bob was a committed Christian, always helping his family, friends, and neighbors.

His wonderful smile and caring nature will be missed by all, but we are forever blessed by his example and love. The family expresses gratitude to the staff at The Woodlands and Becky Casey, his special caregiver.
