As Carl Sagan pointed out, poor nutrition in childhood is a problem that can have far-reaching consequences, including underperformance in school and a decreased ability to learn. When students are hungry, they are unable to focus on schoolwork and therefore retain less. This is an issue that targets our own community, as Eastland County is recognized by the USDA as a Strikeforce county due to the existence of food deserts.
